Templeogue Synge Street G.F.C
  Templeogue Synge Street G.F.C

Synge Street G.F.C was founded in 1945
Both clubs merged in 1999
 Templeogue G.F.C formed in 1978
With Synge Street providing a healthy Adult section and Templeogue G.F.C  providing a healthy Juvenile section. This merger has proved a great success on all fronts, socially, in administration and in playing.

It has provided a structure for juveniles to play Gaelic Football from Nursery level right up to Adult Football level and has encouraged adult members to remain involved at managerial/committee level on retirement from adult football

Templeogue Synge Street GFC

Home is where the heart is and for a number of years since the old clubhouse was let go, Templeogue Synge Street have been striving to replace our old home. It’s with great pleasure that we see, in the last few weeks, the start of the grounds development in Dolphin Park.

Huge effort in recent years by the Development Committee has placed us in a position where the ground and pitch enhancement has now started. The coming months will see full ground enclosure, with a new entrance and also the re-opening of the old, original entrance.

Other works to be undertaken will include re-location of both playing pitches, inner railing of the primary pitch, new resilient goalmouth surface and additional levelling and improvement for all pitches. The current works will be completed with all areas being landscaped, grassed and a tree-lined surround for the entire ground. Congratulations to all for the work to make this happen and we’ll look forward to the addition of a new clubhouse soon.

Juvenile Development

Our juvenile club coach, Ciar

Once again this year, the club summer camp, with assistance from parents and club members was a huge success with over 190 stars of the future attending.

Continued work in the juvenile section of the club means that again this year, we fielded boy’s teams at every age-group from under 8 through to under 16, 1 Minor team, two Junior teams and a Senior team.

Our girls section continues to strengthen and we now field teams at under 10, 11, 13, and 15 with a sixth team already in place for next year thanks to the tireless work of our juvenile committee.

With all the background work going on, ladies success was inevitable and Maurice Brew led the U13 girls to the A Championship final only to lose out to a very strong Ballyboden St. Enda’s team.

All other juvenile teams, both boys and ladies, have had good runs through the year, consolidating their positions in the respective competitions. The ‘Go Football’ is also providing great fun for lots of kids and proving a huge success for all concerned.

Once again, our ladies Feile team had a great run in the competition, showing the way forward for all the ladies teams over the coming years. Our ladies section is growing in strength and numbers and is sure to bring our first ladies Feile win very soon.

Adult success on the Pitch

Our senior team had their first outing in Senior championship this year. Our young team had their work cut out for them but after a narrow loss to the all-Ireland champions Kilmacud Crokes, Senior championship status was retained by a convincing win over Naomh Olafs. All at the club would like to take the opportunity to thank Anton O’Toole, Ronnie Smith and Gerry Coughlan for all their work in guiding this team to an Intermediate Championship victory last year and the subsequent League and Championship battles this year.

Stars of the year in the adult section of the club was our Junior team who won the Stacy cup having gone unbeaten in the group stage , beating Naomh Barrog in the semi and culminated in a great win, 1-08 to 0-09 against Cuala in the final. Of huge excitement to the club is the fact that 11 of the panel from the Stacy cup team are under the age of 19 and 2 more are under the age of 21.

Huge credit is due to the team manager Martin Smith (with great assistance from John Bridges and Maxi McManamon). Martin also provides a fantastic training programme for all in the club who wish to improve their skills and fitness.

Social Events

As usual, the year started with a great night out for all at the Dinner Dance. We were honoured to have Uchtaran Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Christy Cooney in attendance to present the winners medals to the victorious Intermediate Championship team.

Even with the tightening of belts and the move into tougher financial times, the tireless efforts of the fund-raising committee within the club, ensure great success on an on-going basis. Our regular slot on the Friday before the All-Ireland Senior Football Final, again had the fundraising lunch in Croke Park. A great day was had by all in attendance.

The Grange Golf Club was host to the annual member’s golf outing this year. For the second year in a row, we were extremely lucky with the weather and we saw a mixture of golfing abilities somewhere between dubious and reasonable in delivery, but enjoyable to the last and a great win for Paul Bridges on the day before his return to Australia.

Equally as much fun and a lot less walking was the night at the dogs in Harold’s Cross. Very well supported evening although I think that a few of the fancied dogs may still be running.. We’ll look forward to similar nights in our own home some day soon.

The second annual

The club was honoured to have Mark’s parents, Brian and Sheila, in Dolphin Park to present the trophies. Dublin chairman Gerry Harrington was also present during the day.

Alongside the tournament were juvenile matches and a fun day for the younger members of the club. Fantastic success for all concerned and we all look forward to bigger and even better next year.

Not to be left out, the over forties gave their boots a rub of vaseline and entertained all with a memorable (for all the right reasons of course!!!!) match against Ballyboden. Thanks to all who made the effort.

óg  Sráid Singeán Deely continued his great work this year which is starting to see the great strength being added to our juvenile section. Ciarán manages the nursery every Saturday and provides hours of fun and coaching for the local kids. Mark McCormack festival took place in Dolphin Park in September and with a huge effort put into the preparation,it was once again a huge success. Central to the day was the nine a side football tournament that was won by last years beaten Finalists St. Brigids from Cloghan in Co Offaly

Individual Success

We are happy to congratulate many members throughout the club on individual success at county level and for representing Templeogue Synge Street so well.

In full flight for the Dublin Senior team and bringing great pride to club members was Denis Bastick. Denis started every league and championship match at full back for the Dubs and hopefully will spend many years pushing Dublin to success with Sam.

Well done to all those who took part in the Dublin Under 14 Development squad  Dublin U15 development squad, Brendan Bently, Niall Scully, Andy O’Donahue Eoghan Haddock and Robert Power and also John McAllister and Cormac O’ Gara for reaching the Dublin U16 development Squad.

Many thanks to all club members, team mentors, parents, players, helpers and all who are associated with Templeogue Synge Street for all the work and support during the year.

We look forward to another great year in the club both on and off the field. We wish our young players the very best of sporting luck with the club and as many start their breakthrough into county colours and we look forward to telling the tales of their success at this time next year.
